College of Nursing (CON)

HISTORY

The PLT College, Inc., College of Nursing was established in 2003 by the visionary President and Founder, Engr. Purisimo L. Tiam. Behind him were six (6) equally intelligent women, Dr. Elvira Ramos, Mrs. Florlyn Andrada, and Mrs. Lina Calucag who prepared all documents needed, while Mrs. Leticia Puguon, Mrs. Lilia Caballes and Mrs. Annette Menor set up the laboratory.

With 35 enrollees, the department was headed by Mrs. Luz F. Bartolome, the first Dean with the assistance of the first Clinical Coordinator, Mr. Emelito Gonzales.

On July 7, 2003, CHED National Technical Panel had their first visited led by Dr. Octaviano. Comments and recommendations were immediately complied with the guidance of Dr. Linda Simon of CHED RO2. Hence, permit to offer the next level was granted on Augusst 2, 2004 which resulted to an increase in the number of enrollees.

With the boom of nursing schools in the Philippines, the CHED became strict in the requirement of having a base hospital owned by the school. Without hesitation, the President and Founder decided to put up the PLT College Luis A. Tiam Medical Center in Bascaran, Solano, Nueva Vizcaya on September 18, 2005.

This made PLT College, Inc. the youngest nursing school in Nueva Vizcaya to have its own base hospital which attracted student nurses from different schools in the province as well as the region to transfer to PLTC College, Inc. with the increasing population, the Department of Nursing which was once called, became the College of Nursing.

In 2009, Mrs. Cynthia Ruth D. Takinan, the Director of the School of Health Sciences was appointed as the OIC Dean. During her time, most of the faculty received their master’s degree and various hospital trainings. The increasing passing percentage in the Nurse Licensure Examination made an impact to the college and improved its standards.

In November 2010, Mrs. Jossa Rowena F. Ramos was appointed as the Dean and she continued the legacy of Mrs. Takinan. During her Deanship, with the guidance of Director Takinan, the College of Nursing passed the PACUCOA Consultancy Visit on April 2012 and Preliminary Visit of July 2013.

Moreover, the college continues to produce topnotchers in the Nurse Licensure Examination (NLE) with Ms. Venus Lorraine Datud, top 7 (regional) in the December 2010 NLE, Ms. Guineverre B. Las-ang top 8 (national) in the December 2012 NLE, and Mr. Gian Carlo P. Perez 11 top 4 (regional), and Ms. Ma. Louelle Aline V. Hizo top 8 (regional) in the June 2013 NLE.

Today, in keeping with the college vision-mission of molding students into adaptable and responsible citizens in a changing world, the nursing students are equipped with knowledge, skills and desirable attitudes to respond to the needs and problems of society.
